La Historia is a community-based oral history project exploring the role of historical memory in the transnational organizing of a Virginia-based Salvadoran immigrant Hometown Association, Comité con Santa Marta. From 2010-2011 I conducted over a dozen interviews with Comité members and supporters and used them to create several audio pieces and an audio slideshow. Project materials have been deposited in Santa Marta’s community archive and are being used in the development of a historical memory exhibit.
My work with the Comité also resulted in an article, “El Comité con Santa Marta: memoria histórica, testimonio y organización transnacional en El Salvador” (The Comité con Santa Marta: Historical Memory, Testimony and Transnational Organizing) included in a book about migration in Central America, published by the University of Costa Rica in 2016.
